Domestic Violence: If the police are called for a domestic violence incidence, an emergency protective order can be made that will last for five days. After this expires, a temporary domestic violence civil restraining order can be filed to protect you for up to three weeks, until the court sets a hearing. After the hearing, the restraining order can be extended for up to five years.
